Damn guys, my mom's cousin's daughter got married yesterday to the dude she has been dating for thirteen years. She's 26! That's ridiculous!

I honestly have nothing else I want to post about. Here is a meme!

1. Reply to this post, and I will pick six of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon squee.

Did I ever tell you guys I hate the word squee? I do. I got icons from [livejournal.com profile] marksykins!

PS I really hope [livejournal.com profile] ncc_gqmf is right about the Community finale, otherwise I'ma be annoyed.

So I'm SURE you're unsurprised that I'm still totally obsessed with the Telephone video and what people have been saying about it. I've been collecting links! Here we go!

I think my very favorite so far has been the feministe recap, especially for this bit:

A friend was talking to me, and she was like, “I can’t figure out why that video makes me so happy.” And I was like, “because it sets you up to see Gaga’s sexuality as a way that she can be oppressed or hurt, and then it tells you to see her sexuality as a way for her to be powerful and victorious, and the transition from one way of seeing to the other is really great.” And she was like “yes, probably, but also I think I like the outfits and dancing!” And that is why people make fun of me when I talk about Lady Gaga.

because that is pretty much my life. A-L-L T-H-E T-I-M-E. ALSO:

So anyway, we could regard “Telephone” as the logical next step from the “Bad Romance” video, I suppose: there’s a mean boy, and a girl getting her revenge on him, and also some really ridonkulous revenge dancing, but this time, instead of one girl getting revenge all by herself, there are just so many women interacting with each other in so many ways — fighting, yes, and hurting each other, but also kissing and talking and making friends and touching each others’ crotches in a helpful manner and providing support. This video presents community between women as this very powerful, dangerous, thrilling space.

YES. But she also makes some hard criticisms, particularly about Beyonce's acting which a)she used OBSESSED as the example for why Beyonce just is a terrible actress always, and I would like to humbly submit Carmen: A Hip-Hopera as the counterpoint. b) I believe that the honey bun eating was supposed to be REALLY AWKWARDLY ACTED. As a point. For something, idek.

Her second big criticism had to do with transphobia, and I'll let you read it in full, but basically it boiled down to that she was uncomfortable with the prison guards for being presented as trans ladies with deep voices. When I first read it, I didn't quite realize that the women WERE being presented as trans. I just thought they were supposed to be older, butch women. But then, Gaga herself this week said:

"There are transsexual women and transgender women and suddenly it becomes poisonous and something else because there are some people in this world that believe being gay is a choice," she explained. "It's not a choice, we're born this way."

I'm not real sure what she is exactly saying (who ever does???) but it made me review that transphobia crit. If Gaga wanted to include trans women in the video, was it wrong to rely on well-known markers like a deep voice to make it clear very quickly? I mean, it wasn't even immediately clear to me, and I watched it fourteen times the night it premiered.

I wish there was more trans opinions being put out there. Or maybe there is, and I'm not seeing it.

Heather Cassils: Lady Gaga's Prison Yard Girlfriend She was extremely professional and very, very funny. After we did the [kissing] shot, she screamed across the yard to me, "I think you got me pregnant!"

The Hidden Meaning of Lady Gaga’s "Telephone" Gaga’s head is the telephone. She is not answering that phone, which is symbolic of her dissociative mind state.

Lady Gaga’s “Telephone” Video: Even Gayer Than Actual Dance Clubs Just a recap, but notable for the caps that make me lol. OMG LETS.

Lady Gaga Talks Hidden Meanings In Epic 'Telephone' Clip After hooking up with Beyoncé on the set of "Video Phone," Gaga said she was excited to re-team with the R&B diva, who shows off a more foul-mouthed, edgier persona in the clip than she has in the past, including the pivotal scene in which she poisons co-star Tyrese Gibson and calls him a compound nasty name. "We had an amazing time working together on her video and it just kind of works out because we both like women," Gaga said provocatively of the "Telephone" clip, the first half of which takes place in the sexiest/scariest women's prison on the planet.

gaga in wonderland which i have watched TEN TIMES already )

Speaking of Elle Gee, the Telephone video premieres on Thursday, and I am so amped about it, you'd think it was 2000 and everyone was waiting for making the video to premiere Bye Bye Bye. MOOOOM CAN I STAY HOME FROM SCHOOL I AM TOO EXCITED!!!!!! this still that leaked from the video made it all more intense.

ALSO IDK IF YOUR FACEBOOK FRIENDS WERE AS INTENSE ABOUT BETTY WHITE GETTING TO HOST SNL AS MINE HAVE BEEN but congratulations to us all, and when old hippies say our generation doesn't get excited about anything, we can laugh in their faces.
drunktuesdays: ([DiVaS] reject)
I have no idea why this story makes me laugh so hard, but it does.

Clive was onstage, paying tribute to a gal in the audience with "five decades" of No. 1 hits. A girl next to Jay-Z got superexcited at hearing that, turned to him and said, "OMG...it's Beyoncé! Beyoncé is here!"

J.Z.'s crew started cracking up as B's hubby turned to her and replied:

"Five decades? Five decades? My girl ain't that old!"

How great was that first hour of the Grammy's??? I don't understand why they ALWAYS frontload. MAYBE I WOULDN'T HAVE DOZED OFF DURING DMB IF YOU HADN'T GOTTEN PINK, LADY GAGA AND BEYONCE OUT OF THE WAY BEFORE IT WAS HALF OVER, GUYS.

pictures! )

My mom and I watched the first half together and during Gaga's opening performance, I got REAL earnest about Elton and Lady Gaga being FABULOUS REJECTS together. My mom just said contemplatively, "I wonder if her parents are proud of her right now." Then I had to ramble for like fifteen minutes about the backstory to Speechless. WHICH in case you don't know, she wrote it after her dad had heart surgery. He was not real supportive of her music career at first, probs because she never wears pants, and when he needed a bypass, he was refusing to do it. She went to his side and told him if he went through the surgery, and lived, she would give up music and do something he could be proud of. He did make it through the surgery, but OBVIOUSLY, did not take her up on her pledge and in fact is now firmly on Team Gaga, as it should be. YES MOM, HE'S PROUD OF HER. AS AM I.

I don't know if it's any interest to anyone, but I grabbed and spliced up the audio from her performance. I cut out the ringleader guy because as great as that was, it would annoy me to listen to on repeat.

Speechless/Your Song

I also did Beyonce's if anyone wants it. If I Were A Boy/You Oughta Know I didn't do Pink's, because the SPECTACULARNESS of that was all in the video. If anyone wants the album track of Glitter in the Air, let me know.

PS: Some leaked pictures from the telephone shoot. GIMME THAT VIDEO.

"I'm getting the sense that you're a little bit of a feminist, like I am, which is good," she said. "I find that men get away with saying a lot in this business, and that women get away with saying very little . . . In my opinion, women need and want someone to look up to that they feel have the full sense of who they are, and says, 'I'm great.' "

Gaga's casual use of the term "feminist" was interesting; like many female pop stars, she's rejected the term in the past. But she's evolving. She is growing "more compassionate," she says, and focusing more on ideas of community, especially the one formed by her core fan base, a mix of gay men, bohemian kids and young women attracted by Gaga's style and her singable melodies.

"Gender definitely does exist. And where I stand on the fembot issue is this: A Cybertronian robot should have the right to marry anyone he or she desires, provided that they are consensual beings." —Transformers writer Mike Costa, settling the debate over gender (and gay marriage) in the tron universe

So that settles that, in case you were wondering, the transformers are more socially progressive than we are.

I don't even know what is going on in this LJ lately. I feel very all over the place fannishly, like I can't decide what's gonna be my next fandom. I am a very monogamous lady and it feels weird to not be sucked into ANYTHING right now. Let it be said now, and forever that I do not take defriendings personally. I do it to others when I need to, and I will still totally give you a high five if we hang out in person, even if you have hit the "can't read this NONSENSE LIVEJOURNAL" anymore. ♥

In the meantime, I'm very preoccupied with the...What is the pop diva version of RaPs? PaPs? PoPs? Popslash V2? Regardless, I made a joke to [livejournal.com profile] makesomelove about how I want fic where Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Pink form a motorcycle gang and ride cross country, and spent the day considering how very much I am NOT JOKING. In my head it's like, part Thelma & Louise, part Crossroads. Like, my appreciation for team!fic is well documented, but it's also super bolstered by the Video Phone video (which i would link to, but it's getting tos'd left and right.) and listening to G4L (link to the youtube of the audio, if you haven't dl'd yet) off of Rihanna's album, which has a little overkill on the word bitch, but also really attracts me in this sense of GIRL GANG. Girl, I'm with you, if they get you they get me kills me dead every time she sings it.

WHILE I HAVE YOU. What the hell is going on with Te Amo?? Is that song about how Rihanna hooked up with some girl, and accidentally led her on? FOLLOW UP QUESTION: HOW MUCH IS "RUDE BOY" ABOUT RIHANNA VERY DIRTILY TELLING SOME DUDE SHE'S GONNA PEG THE SHIT OUT OF HIM?

I'm grumpy because I need to go face a teacher I don't really feel like facing, and I don't have the money I wish I had to fly to Chicago to see Greta play Someone better show up and document the shit out of that for me. Also ask if she would like to come east and be a certain region's girlfriend.
drunktuesdays: ([CELEB] i think i would understand)

I don't know why the combination tickles me so pink, but it does. Lordy lordy, Gaga. I'm glad I don't scrobble my ipod, otherwise that count would be even worse.

Fame Monster leaked tonight. I have a feeling that count is going to soar into triple digits tonight. Raise your hand if you wish you had nominated her/Bad Romance for yuletide? LOVE YOU GAGA!

Here are some other things that have leaked lately that I have uploaded or one reason or another, and haven't posted publicly.

Wale - Attention Deficit
John Mayer - Battle Studies
Jack's Mannequin - Dear Jack EP (This I stole from [livejournal.com profile] allthespoons but it's worth linking you guys just for the remix of Swim.
Weezer - Radittude
Rihanna - Rated R

And this is old, but I uploaded it for [livejournal.com profile] riadsala ages ago. If you don't already own a copy of the fame, you should. Also, the cherry tree sessions which [livejournal.com profile] strobelighted pointed out to me today. Yay music!!

Some trufax: I started to read the liner notes for BND: GH, and closed out. I don't care, I know they say they're coming back but I literally cannot handle the worry. I just love my band :( [livejournal.com profile] giddygeek linked me to this post that has a gif we apparently missed out on hard core. That is the way I love you Fall Out Boy, you affectionate gaywads.

God I was having a really shitty...day? week? It is only Tuesday, but shit has been a little rough around here.

That's pretty much done though. Today, Lady Gaga's video for "Bad Romance" premiered and all my asshole friends were frantically texting me while I endured a full day of class. NO MATTER. I HAVE SEEN IT NOW.

video under the cut )

I watched it three times before I was able to look past how FREAKING FANTASTIC the costumes are and pay attention to the plot. And then I screamed and kicked around a bit because this video is pretty much the exact reason I love Gaga so much.

Because, yes, okay, she is wearing some utterly ridiculous shit, I KNOW. But she also made a video with some pretty complex stuff to say about dating, and sexual slavery, and societal pressures (the vodka going down her throat), and hello, the way she walked towards the bed like a bride? A BRIDE WEARING A BEAR HEAD, I KNOW, but the juxtaposition of that and burning the motherfucker down was so powerful I clapped. I AM ENTIRELY NOT LYING when I say I probably could talk for hours about the color symbolisms from one scene to the next. About a video where someone is wearing some sort of chicken fencing material on their fingernails. I love you Lady Gaga. I wish you were in my life. [livejournal.com profile] makesomelove and I would make you so happy.
